Diane Ibbotson Wins
The winner of Insight Investment's Newcomer's Prize 2007 at the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition is Diane Ibbotson for her oil painting Star Shine. She receives £5000. Er ... no comment.

I think that the prize was £10,000 not £5,000!
Who came second and third? - shame that there was no prize for them.
You may be right. Tracking down the winner was difficult, because the RA website hadn't been updated and the BBC website was actually updated while I visited it, which made everything a bit confusing. I had £5000 in my mind, but couldn't recall where'd I picked that up from, so couldn't double check.
There was only one winner, but the top 5 artworks were named (title link on my original post). I guess that's a reward in itself when you've exhibited in the RA for the first time. (It's very difficult just to exhibit at the show.)
