Ragamala Paintings

On 25 January the Dulwich Picture Gallery in London opens Ragamala Paintings from India: poetry, passion, song. A ragamala is a set of miniature paintings depicting Indian musical modes or ragas with a brief caption or poem that describes the mood of each raga. The show features a rare collection of 24 miniatures from the Claudio Moscatelli Collection. Shown is a detail from Bhairava Raga, Pahari, Nurpur (c. 1690).
