Fresh Mona Liza

The Prado Museum in Madrid, Spain, has unveiled a copy of Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa which experts believe was painted in his studio by one of his apprentices, possibly Francesco Melzi. The Prado has owned the painting for many years, but two years ago began preparing it for a da Vinci exhibition at the Louvre. An 18th century black background surrounded the Mona Liza. When this was removed, the same background as in Leonardo's Mona Liza was revealed. The original is covered with cracked varnish that has yellowed with age. The newly cleaned copy shows how young and beautiful the Mona Liza really was, as you can see below. Click the title link for a BBC News video.
