Shark News

And it's a Merry Christmas for sharks. The South Pacific island chain the Cook Islands is the latest island nation to create a shark sanctuary in its waters. It has declared a 1.9 million-sq-km sanctuary, contiguous with one established last week by its neighbour French Polynesia. Together they make a shark sanctuary of 6.7 million sq km. What's that in real money? Nearly the size of Australia. Other island nations that have created shark sanctuaries include Palau, the Maldives, Tokelau, Honduras and the Bahamas (CLICK). Well done. The magnificent creature shown here is a Blue Shark. Imagine killing it just for its fins! Disgusting!
